Mount Kenya 4-Day Climb

Experience one of Africa’s most iconic trekking adventures with our 4-day Mount Kenya climb. This itinerary follows the popular Naro Moru ascent and Sirimon descent, offering a smooth acclimatization profile, diverse landscapes, and excellent mountain hut accommodation.

Your journey begins in Naro Moru town, where the trail gently winds through picturesque farmlands before entering the lush mountain forest. From here, the route climbs steadily through bamboo, heather, and finally into the open moorland, offering a taste of Mount Kenya’s incredible ecological variety.

Although the Naro Moru trail is less scenic than other routes, it provides some of the best hut facilities on the mountain. The main challenge of this route is the “vertical bog” — a marshy stretch across the lower moorlands — and the steep, loose gravel section approaching the high camp. However, the reward is well worth it, culminating in a sunrise summit of Point Lenana (4,985m).

Detailed Itinerary.

Day 1: Nairobi – Met Station (3,050m)

Hiking time: 3–4 hours | Distance: 10 km | Ascent: 400m

After pickup in Nairobi, you will be transferred to the Naro Moru Park Gate for lunch and briefing. The trek begins through beautiful montane forest, thick bamboo, and giant heather until the trail opens into high-altitude moorland.
Arrive at Met Station Hut (3,050m) for dinner and overnight. This is a relaxed acclimatization day with a gentle elevation gain.

Day 2: Met Station – Mackinders Camp (4,300m)

Hiking time: 5–6 hours | Distance: 11 km | Ascent: 1,200m

The day starts with a short walk to the end of the forest line, followed by the famous vertical bog, a marshy section of the moorland. Stop for a picnic lunch at the scenic Picnic Rocks before continuing steadily to Mackinders Camp.
Enjoy dinner and overnight at the camp, surrounded by spectacular views of the Teleki Valley.

Day 3: Mackinders Camp – Point Lenana (4,985m) – Old Moses Camp (3,300m)

Total trekking time: approx. 11 hours | Ascent: 685m | Descent: 1,685m

Your summit attempt begins at 03:00 hrs. Climb through the alpine zone across rocky and scree-covered terrain, reaching Point Lenana just in time for the brilliant African sunrise.
Descend via the Sirimon route, stopping at Shipton’s Camp for a well-earned breakfast. Afterwards, continue down the stunning Mackinder Valley to Old Moses Camp, where you will spend the night.

Day 4: Old Moses Camp – Nairobi

After an early breakfast, descend through the thick montane forest to the Sirimon Park Gate, where your vehicle will be waiting to transfer you back to Nairobi. Expect to arrive in the early evening.
